Now that you know what self-limiting beliefs look like, and where they come from, it’s time to take some steps to get rid of them.
The last thing you want is for limiting beliefs to hold you back from growing your business. I know from experience how hard it can be to let go of them, and to really dive in embrace your full potential.
So, we’re going to keep this post short and sweet and get right to it. Here are five things you can do to overcome your limiting beliefs and really embrace the life and business you are meant to have!
Take Responsibility for Your Limiting Beliefs
You do realize your self-limiting beliefs are really your comfort zone, right? They act as a safety net to protect you from taking risks where you might get hurt, or worse, get your feelings hurt.
It’s better to stick to your limitations, your mind tells you, rather than try anything new.
This is so not true!
It’s better to evaluate those thoughts and take responsibility for your limiting beliefs and then decide what you’re going to do about them. Only you can change your mind, and decide to move beyond your perceived limitations.
Become More Self-Aware
Self-awareness is a huge key to overcoming limiting beliefs. Being self-aware is a little like keeping a running inventory in your mind.
You want to be mindful of your thoughts so that you know when you’re feeling more positive, and when you’re letting your negative beliefs get you down. Keeping track of these and writing them down will help you identify your limiting beliefs and when they come up during your day.
Acknowledge Your Limiting Beliefs
They say you have to acknowledge a problem before you can solve it. This is also true when it comes to overcoming limiting beliefs.
The first thing you will need to do here is make a list of all your limiting beliefs. Then you can follow up and ask yourself questions to determine if it’s really a belief you want to keep, or just a way to keep you stuck inside your comfort zone.
Be gentle with yourself when you’re doing this step. You don’t want to beat yourself up while you’re identifying and overcoming your limiting beliefs.
Overcome your beliefs by journaling
Writing in your journal is a great way to overcome your limiting beliefs. Here are a series of questions you can ask yourself to get to the root of the belief:
- Is this mine, or something that someone else has given me?
- Do I really believe this is true?
- Is this a belief I really want to hang on to?
- Is this belief out of perspective?
- What’s the worst that can happen if I let go?
These are a few ideas to get you started thinking about your limiting beliefs and how to let go of them.
Use affirmations to reframe your beliefs
I love affirmations! You can use them change all sorts of thoughts, including limiting beliefs.
The best way to use affirmations in overcoming limiting beliefs is to use them to reframe the belief into something positive.
For example, if your limiting belief is that you can’t earn about a certain amount, you could change that to an affirmation like:
“I do great work and I deserve to be compensated for it,” or
“I attract clients who value my work and have no problem paying for it.”
The important thing to remember when working to overcome limiting beliefs is that you are in control of your thoughts. You can grow your creative business and turn it into a thriving empire when you challenge your self-limiting beliefs, and ultimately overcome them.
