As a creative person, habits can make or break your success. We’re going to be spending a lot of time here talking about habits… getting rid of the bad ones, cultivating the good ones and generally building up a core routine based on positive habits that keep us productive and keep the creative juices flowing.
To start off, here are my 10 favorite happiness habits. Because as someone once told me, “Happiness doesn’t happen to you, it’s something that comes from you.”
Top 10 Happiness Habits
Happiness Habit #1
Think Positive Thoughts
There’s both good and bad, positive and negative in every situation. People who focus on the positive are happier than those who focus on the negative. Find something good in every day and be grateful for it.
Happiness Habit #2
Set Goals and Go After Your Dreams
It’s hard to be happy if you don’t have something to look forward to. Having dreams and setting goals to achieve them gives you that something. Make a list of your goals and take at least one action each day to get you closer to making your dreams come true.
Happiness Habit #3
Happy people are resilient. They can overcome obstacles and tough times and take the everyday ups and downs in stride. They are slow to give up. This characteristic makes it easier to maintain a positive attitude and more challenging to feel depressed or lack hope.
Happiness Habit #4
Hang out with other happy people
They say that happiness is contagious. When you hang out with happy people, you’ll end up feeling happier too.
Happiness Habit #5
Get enough exercise
Getting enough exercise is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Studies have shown that exercise releases chemicals in your brain that make you happy. Plus you’ll be doing something good for your physical health too.
Happiness Habit #6
Give to others
Making someone else’s life better can make you feel happy at the same time. Help a neighbor, volunteer, or donate your skills to a worthy cause. You’ll feel better because you’re making a difference.
Happiness Habit #7
And I don't mean on Facebook. :) Humans are meant to be social. We need social contact on a regular basis to keep ourselves feeling good. Heck, I’m pretty much a hermit, and even I need some human interaction every day. Decide how much of a social life you need to make you happy, and then take action to make it a reality.
Happiness Habit #8
Ditch the gossip
It might be fun to have a good gossip session, but sooner or later you’ll find yourself the center of someone else’s gossip and then it’s not so much fun. Plus, talking about others in a negative way spreads negative energy; and negative energy is not conducive to happiness.
Happiness Habit #9
She who has the most toys is not necessarily the happiest person in the room. Too much stuff can lead to clutter, distraction and stress and none of those lead to happiness. Have what you need to make you happy, and stop there. And if you’ve already got too much stuff, declutter and downsize, and see if you don’t feel happier for it.
Happiness Habit #10
Oh, how we always want to control everything. But guess what, we can’t and when you learn to accept that, you will be a much happier person. There are some things in life you just can’t change, and when that happens accept that, and let it go. Easier said than done sometimes, I know.
So there you have ‘em… 10 habits you can cultivate to increase your happiness, creativity and productivity. Be honest now, how many of these do you practice on a regular basis? Share below or come talk about it in the Facebook group.
