Make Your Content Stand Out: Seven Value-Added Content Types to Wow Your Readers
One of the basic rules of content marketing is that you must give value to your readers. There are so many blogs out there now, that you have to do something to get noticed and gain an advantage over your competition.
That doesn't mean you should resort to being gimmicky or spammy in your efforts. Well-written and relevant content is still the best way to keep your readers happy. You can go above and beyond by using different types of content to give your readers an experience they can't get on any other blog.
Here are seven types of content you can use to add value for your readers.
1. Add audio and video versions
Just as people learn in different ways, they also have preferences for how they consume their content.
Whether you like it or not, video content is here to stay. A recent article published by Hubspot pointed out that 43% of content consumers want more video, and 51.9% of marketers say that video content has the best ROI.
Audio content is gaining in popularity as well. I was recently on a webinar where the speaker mentioned that many people actually prefer the audio only version to video. They can listen in their car, in the gym, on a walk, etc. and audio content is much more portable that a video than you have to sit down and watch. (The webinar was part of a series for MyNams Insiders, but I can't recall who the speaker was.)
If you've only ever posted written content, try adding audio and video versions of your blog posts to capture the attention of people who prefer to watch and listen rather than read.
2. Share plans and templates
Personally, I love templates. Give me a free template that I can download and use to make my life easier, and I'll be a fan of you and your blog for life.
3. Checklists are another way to add value
Again, as with the templates and plans, checklists that your readers and download and print are another way to stand out from the crowd and add value. This is especially true if you're doing how-to posts.
Why not take the steps from your post, turn them into a checklist and make it a free download for people who read the article? They'll have the steps right in front of them to make the job easier.
4. Ebooks and reports add big value
Yes, creating ebooks and reports can take some planning and time to create, but the value you give your readers with a quality free report is priceless.
When you freely share your information, you let your readers know that you value them and you also benefit from the added authority. The traffic boost you'll get as they share your free reports with their friends and network won't hurt either!
5. Workbooks and worksheets are another type of content that add value
If your niche is part of the self-improvement or coaching markets, you can add great value for your readers by providing free content in the form of workbooks and worksheets.
6. Product reviews and comparisons help readers make a buying decision
If you are promoting affiliate offers and tangible goods, such as from Amazon.com, you can give your readers great value by providing honest reviews and product comparisons. Helping your readers by gathering all the information they need to make a buying decision adds value for them, and can also benefit you if you include your affiliate links and they buy directly from your review.
7. Coupons and promotions make your readers feel special
Sounds a little cheesy I know, but people love to get a deal, and it really does make them feel like you have their best interests at heart. So if your products and services allow for it giving your loyal readers a coupon or a big discount helps reinforce that loyalty.
If you don't have anything of your own to give a discount on, you can still share coupons and promotions for products that you know your readers will find useful.
How You Benefit from Giving Away Value-Added Content
When you create value-added content and give it away to your readers, you are benefiting as well.
I've already mentioned a few of the benefits such as increased traffic, increased authority, and increased commissions in the case of product reviews.
Adding a wealth of free information for your readers will also help to increase your reach and build your following.
First, by having your readers opt-in to get the extra content, you build your list and can develop a relationship with your readers by tailoring content to fit their interests. A good email system like Drip that gives you tagging and automation capabilities makes this really easy.
Second, by including your contact information in each piece of downloadable content, and asking your readers to freely share with their social networks, the word will spread that you are a provider of useful information.
The end result is that when you provide different types of content that add value for your readers and make their lives easier, you can't help but see an increase in traffic and ultimately profits.
